She taught Sunday School in Mabel and Decorah for eighteen years and was also an officer of the circle group. Marlys was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Mabel, Minnesota. Marlys was proud of calling every one of her family members on their birthdays and sending each of them a gift at Christmas.
She enjoyed playing cards, dancing and making silk flowers. They operated the Villager Drive In, in Canton, MN for ten summers. She was a stay at home mother, taking care of her eight children as well as farming with her husband. She married Selmer Odell Tweten on Apat the Pontoppidan Lutheran Church. Marlys attended teachers training at Luther College and then taught rural school for three years. She graduated from Decorah High School on May 11, 1944.
